SEC Opening Weekend

August 17, 2020

Upon first glance the opening slate for the SEC looks…boring? I really can’t name a good looking game here. Mizzou plays the role of sacrificial lamb and hosts the Tide week one. That’s a snoozer. The biggest reason to get up for this one is to watch Mac Jones dominate but then watch Bryce Young come in in the second half and look like the second coming. The media fallout over a quarterback controversy will be electric.

Georgia at Arkansas looks like a great tune up game for Jamie Newman (or JT Daniels bc he is way better than Newman which means Kirby will for sure start Newman).

The Bayou Bengals should make quick work of Mississippi State (right? Miss St always just has the big suck going on).

A&M finally getting some scheduling help is nice to see as they should beat the nerds down that weekend. We’ll see how long it takes Vandy to opt of the season once the entire schedule gets released.

Ole Miss and Florida could be a good game. Here’s to hoping that Kiffin, a Saban disciple, can take down Mullen, a descendant of the Urban Meyer coaching tree. At the end of the day though it’s still a quarterback who can’t throw the ball in Plumlee against a quarterback who throws the ball a little bit better in Trask.

“Vols vs. USCjr is gonna be good” – William Dowling. Thank you for the hard hitting analysis counselor william.

The Cardiac Cats taking on the University of West Georgia is looking like it may be the best game of the weekend. The game’s in Jordan-Hare though so be on the lookout for a whack whack whack finish with Auburn ending up on top.

If it seems like I’m complaining, it’s because I am. The SEC really couldn’t have dialed up a more boring opening weekend. Over under is set at 1.5 good games. BUT. It feels so good to be complaining about sports again and more specifically about SEC football. Only about 3.5 hours til the full release and the echoing of “Bama ain’t playin nobody Pawl” begins in the southeast. Can not wait.
