Whatever it is, there’s one betting streak that has become nuclear. And no, it’s not based on trends or statistics. Not based on math or numbers or calculations. It’s created off of gut feeling and football knowledge. The gut feeling of one crotchety old genius who built his name not on football, but on basketball.
That man is Wimp Sanderson, former University of Alabama Basketball coach. Wimp Sanderson is still involved in the Alabama Community, and was known for his signature plaid suit, seen often in Tuscaloosa in Basketball gamedays both to celebrate the coach, and to remember and honor the life of late Super Fan Cameron Ratliff.
Wimp has a weekly call segment on The Next Round Radio podcast (formerly The Round Table on WJOX) where he calls in to the show to chat Sports in the last week with the hosts Ryan Brown, Lance Taylor, and Jim Dunnaway. He talks Alabama and Auburn sports, and gives his opinions on recent SEC and National Sports Story lines that are, more often than not, crotchety old man opinions (don’t get him started on these new NIL Deals.)

For seasons, Wimp has been getting along right at 50%, maybe a little bit better. But this season, the Football Gambling Gods have shown favor on his sweet soul. through 12 weeks, Wimp’s Blue Plate Special is 11-1….
Wimps is on a gambling streak that is the equivalent of catching Moby Dick’s White Whale on the same day you find a leprechaun’s pot of gold. Unheard of and unreachable heights that have had money flowing from every whimpering Bookie’s Venmo.
Every week his bet remains consistent in one way. It’s a favorite to cover the spread, always a big name Power 5 team, more often than not ranked in the top 25. Not small spreads either. More often than not double digit spreads. Last week? Oklahoma State-13.5. State won 63-17 and were covering the spread by the end of the first quarter . Wimp as an old coach seems to have a way to know which teams are going to show up and which teams will roll over. Regardless of his strategy, this man is hotter than a hot pocket in hell, and I will continue to follow.
