The SEC once again looked like a NFL factory last night in the first round, but let’s take a second to really dive into how this reflects on the college football landscape
Let’s look at the numbers
5 Draft picks From the Big 10
5 From the Big 12
3 From the Pac12
3 From the ACC
15 Draft Picks from the SEC…
Nearly HALF of the 1st round class was from the SEC. and 2/3 players from that group played in the LSU Alabama game in Tuscaloosa this past November. For the last two or three years there has been some push for other conferences to take the title of “best conference in football.” And there have been a few weekends where I may agree to that. But let’s look big picture here.
There’s 120 something college football programs. HALF of the best players in the league this best year came from only 6 teams in the SEC. To have a group that small be that elite must be sending Bernie Sanders into a communistic frenzy.
Over the last 20 years you have a 2/3 chance any year that the national championship will return to the South Eastern Conference. And I’m fucking exhausted of one team attempting to carry the banner every year for a specific conference, attempting to plant their flag onto the top of the CFB Mountain (looking at you Baker Mayfield).
The SEC kicks ass in every realm of football. Historically by far the best defensive conference, offenses breaking records now left and right, trophies overflowing from our shelves, recruiting classes pulling in the biggest stars from across the country, and oh yeah The NFL wants to pay our players more than anyone else.
So basically the SEC dominance in the draft is expected yet overlooked. No one cares when greatness happens in front of your eyes when you’re expecting it to happen. I’m ready for some of the other conferences and teams to get their shit together and start playing real football. And it starts with the blue bloods. i.e. Texas, USC, Michigan, Florida St., Miami, Nebraska…..chu’ doin?
Until then, we will stay on our King Shit. $$$
