The Super Conference and Why We Need It

August 11, 2020

So the Big10 and the Pac12 don’t want to play football. That’s fine, I’m not happy about it but that’s fine. So now what do we do? Do we cave in and not have football this season? No. We persevere through the trials and tribulations like any good full back would do. Put your hand in the dirt, get helmet on helmet, and beat somebody’s ass. And what better way to do that than with a one year, SUPER CONFERENCE. If you combine the SEC, BIG12, ACC, and add in Notre Dame, and Nebraska and Iowa (since they didn’t vote to eliminate football) then ladies and gentlemen, we have ourselves what could be the best damn football season anyone has ever seen. Let’s start with drafting the two conferences, then break down why this would actually work.

10 season game, 8 games in your division, 2 games in cross division. At the end of the season, we have a 6 team playoff, top three teams from both sides, 2&3 teams play each other to face the #1 team, winners form both divisions play for the national championships. And there are a couple key matchups in there that would wet any football fan’s appetite.

#1 West Virginia vs Pitt.

Oh the Old Big East days, what a glorious mess those were, but nothing was as much fun as a heated and hated rivalry between two schools who’s fan bases are dictionary definitions of the word “gritty.” These backyard brawls were a minor spectacle in the 90s and 2000s, and college football fans have been clamoring for a rematch ever since.

#2 Texas vs Texas A&M

Stemming back from the SouthWest conference days, these teams were old, old rivals, until recently, probably more hated rivals for Texas fans than Oklahoma. These two teams battled everyone for recruits, scores, and who could wear the biggest cowboy hat. For nostalgia sake, and frankly for a great game to see who can finally bust out of being mediocre, let’s get this game back on

#3 Alabama, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame all in the same division

You want to talk about historic power houses that are prideful to an annoying degree right now? These three guys. The amount of shit talk leading up to a match between any of these three will surely cause a handful of bar fights and we can finally settle this for all who would fair best in each’s conference.

#4 The return of Les Miles

The old Mad Hatter coming back to LSU would be a glorious thing. Just imagine the picture of two of the weirdest human beings, both wearing championship rings that they both won in Baton Rouge. That picture in itself is worth saving the season for.

#5 Nebraska Back in the BIG12

You think they regret that decision? They wanted to be part of a more prominent conference to bring them back to their glory days and instead all they have gotten is 10 years of ass whoopins. I’m sure there is still pent up anger in those old Corn fed bones that they would love to let out on some Fly over state teams, but let’s be honest, they won’t win 4 games in this format again.

Is this system perfect? No. But is there a better idea out there? Anyone…? Anyone…? …Bueller? So take it or leave it, I really don’t care, all I know is if we don’t come up with some kind of idea in the next…oh I don’t know… 5 minutes or so we may lose college football for good. #SUPERCONFERENCE
