A betting guide for America’s past time
To start this out I just want to congratulate everyone on making it through the past four (4) months. We made it. Time to have some fun and lose make some money. We’ll start this off with a divisional glance and move from there to the playoffs.
NL East:
Braves: +190
Nats: +250
Mets: +298
Phillies: +337
Marlins: Flush your money down the toilet instead of betting them
My pick here is the Braves at +190. Obviously a homer pick, but I really do think they’re the best team in this division. Best value probably lies with the Phillies at +337. They have a real shot to win the division and as close as this race is going to be I think their odds are the best.
NL Central:
Reds: +230
Cardinals: +245
Cubs: +251
Brewers: +337
Pirates: +6462 (what hahaha)
For the Central I’m going to roll with the Cardinals at +245. They’re roster is solid and they have great pitching. They play great defense and they do a great job getting ducks on the pond. In an age where everything is about dingers, they do a really good job of just hitting singles and getting a ton of RBI’s. I think the Reds are extremely overvalued at +230. They seem to be a hot pick this year, but really no one knows why. Their rotation is above average for sure, but I just don’t think they have the firepower to offensively make enough noise. I also am not confident enough in their bull pen to bring enough to the table day to day to help them stay ahead in this whacky season.
NL West:
There’s no reason to bet on anyone in this division. The Dodgers are -500 and the next best is the Diamondbacks at +647. Dodgers cake walk to a divisional title this year.
AL Central:
Twins: -130
Indians: +270
White Sox: +297
Royals: +7173
Tigers: +8000
The Twins are looking to build off leading the MLB in bombs from last year and Vegas knows it. People are hammering that bet for them to win the division and it makes sense as to why. They have an electric offense, a solid rotation, and a good bullpen. It’s hard to bet against them, BUT you should. The White Sox have the best value in this division at +297. They also have Tim Anderson who is sick. Dude is so fun to watch. They have a new gun in Dallas Kuechel who fell off towards the end of the season for Atlanta last year, but in a shortened season he may provide more durability. Adding Encarnacion is also a huge pickup for them and fills a great spot in their lineup regardless of if they even have him play first vs just hitting. I like that team a lot this year.
AL East:
Similar to the NL West, there’s really no point in betting anyone but the Yankees here. You could make the argument that the Rays at +300 provides value but it’s really just hard to bet against the Yankees at -302 especially with the pitching they have on top of their lineup. I’d stay away from this division as there’s no money to be made on the Yankees and it doesn’t seem smart to bet anyone else.
AL West:
Asterisks: -162
Athletics: +230
Angels: +596
Rangers: +1694
Mariners: +8000
It sucks but the Astros are still really good (maybe?). But also they may not be able to hit. We’ll see. They will get a lot of free guys on base this year though with as many guys that will get beamed. I feel like the gig might be up for the Stro’s this year. I like the Angels at +596. They have the best player in the game (possibly of all time), they just added one of the best players from the NL last season in Anthony Rendon to man the hot corner. Albert Pujols is still a more than serviceable player. Shohei Otaini is back this year which is electric. Seriously, a pitcher that can also get in the lineup as a DH is so sick. Idk. Feel like this could be a fun bet and we’ll see if Trout can actually play on national TV a few times. Let’s roll the dice here.
NLCS:
Dodgers: +160
Braves: +647
Nats: +837
Cards: +991
Mets: +1000
Phillies: +1148
Cubs: +1175
Reds: +1293
The Braves really provide great value here, and also I think they’ve got a legit shot to do this. Granted I’m wearing my Acuna jersey as I type this.
ALCS:
Yankees: +172
Astros: +387
Twins: +774
Rays: +800
Indians: +1100
If you are going to bet this, go with the Yanks. They’re sick. When it comes down to it, I think Aroldis Chapman ices this series blowing one past Altuve. The complete opposite of what happened last year. Reckon we’ll see, but I will not be betting this. Don’t see enough value here.
World Series
Dodgers: +375
Yankees: +385
Astros: +800
Braves: +1300
Twins: +1600
Nats: +1800
Rays: +1800
Cards: +2200
This is a multi play in my opinion. Sprinkle some across a few teams here. Bet heavy on the Dodgers and the Yankees. Bet medium on the Braves and go light light light on the Twins and Rays. Gonna be a funky season, so we’ll see how this all plays out. The main thing is that sports are back and we can start losing money again. I can’t wait.
Also, if you’ve got some rocks then don’t listen to my multi play bs for the World Series. Toss it all on the Braves and then we can all be sad together.
